My daughter's Mazda3. This is the teardown required for installation of a factory iPod cable so its integrated into the factory stereo unit. The dealer quoted $ 350 to do the job, plus $ 280 for parts. I decided I could do it myself (I'm pretty handy around cars) - but even I was shocked at how much of the car I had to take apart to get this job done. Five hours in the garage! Mazda really needs a better system in today's world for iPod hookups, this was crazy. (Yes I did get it all back together!)

All back together and no 'extra' parts? Nice. I still listen to music on these things called CD's...
Never! I'm pretty good on cars and motorcycle jobs. I actually enjoy it. The trick is to get it right the first time, and not break anything in the process. I can work slower and more methodically than a dealership mechanic, as I'm not under any pressure to get in done in 'x' amount of time.
Ahhh....CD's....soon to go the way of the cassette tape deck, the 8-track, and the 33 LP. <g>
