Thanks for all of the information. I think we are going to try and head over to Hickory this weekend and check some things out. We are considering leather now, and expanding the budget a little. My mother in law has a Bradington Young sofa that we like quite a bit. It is very comfortable, but the leather is easy to scuff. It is a reddish brown color - no idea what grade. I don't think she paid over $1200 for it.

After much searching, we found a sofa and chair that we really liked and purchased it yesterday. It's made by Masterfield, and appears to be well constructed. Before this forum, I did not know what to look for when buying upholstered furniture. This sofa has a 5/4 maple frame and an 8 way hand tied spring system. It is also very comfortable. I had never heard of the brand, but it was a really good buy so we went for it.
