Re: Hancock Moore / Bradinton Young or Other?
Reclining sofas are costly, and there are some downsides to them, which is why you don't see many from makers. Some of the negatives:
1) Heavy, Typically 250 to 300 lb
2) No 8-way hand-tied spring deck
3) Movement cuts in the back where the back reclines. (unsightly)
4) Has to be away from the wall
5) End sections show more wear than the center over time
6) If a mechanism breaks, you almost have to repair it. I would almost never recommend putting one into a sectional end.
7) Not good in households with young children. Serious finger-pinching issues if kids play on the sofa (think: A Trip to the E.R.)
Bradington Young's recliner sofa is terrible in my opinion. The angles are all wrong and the dimensions / specs are not well designed for comfort.
H&M's are MUCH better, as are Leathercraft's. Also more costly.
Personally, I prefer a conventional sofa or sectional with a good ottoman. You get more comfortable seating and the ottoman will give you 90 % of what you get with recliner end units while bypassing all the issues above.
