Wow! Classic Leather went to plywood frames, I didn't realize that until I clicked on the construction link. That's why I always like to say "Don't buy on a brand name - LEARN what makes a good piece and then buy based on construction". Makers are always tweaking their builds, so a Classic Leather frame built three or four years ago may not be the same product as they put out right now. They obviously made the transition to plywood, but I don't remember when that happened. That puts them squarely in with Bradington Young and a notch below Hancock and Moore as well as Leathercraft in build design.

Did you know that the two gentlemen who started H&M came from Classic Leather? Jack Glasheen was their Sales Manager and Jimmy Moore the Production Manger at Classic back in the 70's / early 80's. They struck out on their own and their product has far surpassed their old employer's.

I wanted off-white upholstered dining chairs, but with 2 kids under 7- not a great idea. I discovered Crypton last year and they now sell some basic colors at Joanne's Fabric (in the designer/specialty fabric section and online). I put a sample to the test, finding everything possible in my fridge, ink and permanent marker. I let it dry for 24 hrs. Everything came off except the permanent marker with dish detergent and water. The permanent marker came out mostly and with a little elbow grease it would probably all come out. I went ahead and ordered my chairs COM(and mailed them the fabric) The fabric is soft and comfortable (I ordered the basic microfiber)- it is a little less suedelike than standard microfiber and feels a little like soft felt fabric, but not in a bad way. Joanne's Always has 40%-50% off sales, so it is considerably less than it is on the Crypton website. Cost me about $17/yd.

I got a sample yesterday, and immediately took a big blue permanent ink magic marker to it with gusto. I REALLY laid the ink in there. I had to use lots of soap an water, and a 3M Scotchbrite pad, but it did come out in about 4 minutes of intense scrubbing with only mild thread damage. Impressive.

While at High Point at Market, I was approached and asked if I would be interested in selling product I don't normally carry by 'talking it up' here on the forum for a nice commission kickback on each sale made. I'm not going to mention any names, but my response was "Why would I want to try to encourage people to buy something I don't know about or carry in my store?" They said "To make some more money - just give us some referrals and we'll do the rest, you don't have to handle it or warranty it".

Had my iPhone with me, so I said "wait a sec" and pulled up this photo and told them "As soon as you deliver this to my driveway with the title, I'll give you all the pump-up you want":

Sheesh! The nerve of some people. I can be bought, but not cheaply <g>
