I came across a website called IO Metro that had furniture claimed to be made from Acacia. Any information? Good, bad, indifferent?

Its a hardwood, usually referred to as "Australian Blackwood" in the species used in furniture making. Its a medium density wood that can show figure if stained and finished properly. No reason to shy away from it.
