Default Help for my Mother H&M Lounger

Hello, thank you for this forum.

    Duane,

My Mother has a H&M Lounger, it's about 10 years old and the Leggitt Mechanism is broken.

My Sister said the place she bought it is no longer in business. Can you help me order the Leggitt Mechanism?

Will the model (chair name) be somewhere on the chair?

Thanks so much for your help.

Glad to. There is a production tag that shows the model number on the bottom of the chair, but they are usually torn off. Best thing to do is take a digital photo of the chair and post it here so I can identify it. A replacement mechanism is currently $ 175 plus shipping. Takes an upholsterer appx 1 hour to install.

    Thank you so much Duane!

There is no tag on the bottom, there was a small piece where there once was one though.

I'm thinking this was one of the more popular loungers in its day.

    Thanks again

That's an Austin tilt back chair, model # 2032NB. It doesn't have a mechanism, but a single gas strut that operates the tilt function. A new gas strut is $ 50 and clips in and out easily. The H&M guys can replace one of those by feel, but for normal people it requires taking the outback off the chair to install. About one hour's labor for an upholstery person. Many places will do that right in your home.

    Duane,

I'm amazed by how fast you Id'd that, I must say. It does not do the upright position, it seems to hit the two reclining positions. Does that comport with what you would expect with a Gas strut?

Can I order that strut through you?

    Thank you

Well, it's easy when you know your product line! The gas strut just loses pressure, and it won't return to the upright position. That's definitely the issue. Yes, you can order though me, just give a call to the store or if you like you can use the PM here on the forum.
