Default Is this leather salvageable? Is it even leather?

I picked up a couple of these robust chairs a few years ago, long before I had heard about this forum. The leather, at least I think it's leather, has some cracks in spots and I'm wondering if they are salvageable. I had heard that there are leather products from tack shops that might help like Bick 4 leather rejuvenator. Any ideas?

You can't 'rejuvenate' or 'restore' leather, once the damage is done - its done. What you can do, however, is start a regular schedule of cleaning and conditioning the hide and then it may slow the degradation and hopefully it won't split then. Option 2 is to call in a leather repair pro and he can fill the cracks and paint them, but that's going to cost probably more than you want to invest in the chair.

Duane is SO right. I have some dining chairs that were my father in laws, and his fathers, and his fathers before him. The seats are leather. That leather is really, really old now but, because it was taken care of it is still in good shape. I can't tell you how old those seat covers are! The chairs are antiques now. Just take care of it from day one and it lasts for a long, long time. You're brave to try and save that chair leather. I think I'd just get new leather covers for it if you want leather on there. Nice chair btw!
