We have looked at a lot of sleigh beds.
Henredon and Stickley are top contenders but we came across a Jonathan Charles that is really nice. Seems to be quality construction, all pieces appear to be cut, no molding like Bernhardt does.
I read one post about Duane purchasing some J.C. pieces but have not found much else about them. I know they are made in Asia, "hand crafted" ...
Is it actually quality construction? My biggest concern I suppose is the beautiful veneer peeling off the hardwood over time.
Duane mentioned ordering some Jonathan Charles pieces back in 2009; he's presently on vacation so we'll have to wait for his comments.
I saw a Jonathan Charlies piece a few years ago, and it seemed well-made. The quality was much better than the production pieces I've seen out of China, but nowhere near what you'll get from, say, a custom piece by John Buchanan or (at a much higher price point) a piece by Councill. The finish had been antiqued - that allows for a certain degree of imperfection in the inlay.
Jonathan Charles is decent for an import. I'd not worry about a veneer lift on it.
