Default Sony RX100 Camera - an amazing pocket camera

I like to dabble in photography a little, and have had several cameras over the years. At the store I use a Nikon D40 to shoot all those Photo Resource pictures you see here and it does a great job for a simple SLR and rarely needs color correction or any fiddling in Photoshop. Its compact and robust, and its a little on the aged side of things, but its a workhorse.

At home I have a full Nikon D7000 series setup with lenses, etc. its a fantastic camera, but like more SLR's you have to lug around a camera bag and carry lenses. I used that for static shots and portraits, but its not something I want to carry on a motorcycle ride or when traveling.

I've been looking for a high-end compact camera and started reading about this new Sony RX100 back in January. It sets new benchmarks in performance in a small package that really DOES fit in your pocket. I'm not going to list the specs here, but you can read them if you like:

Expensive at $ 650, I pre-ordered one from Sony so I would have the first ones to be made in late July, in time for my trip to Europe. I didn't want to lug the D7000 all over the place as we were maxed out on luggage and carry-ons already. I got it just a few days before we left. Its a work of art, beautifully finished and does everything they say it does. It delivers Pro results equal to my D7000 photos (that camera and lens costs nearly 4x as much) and I can carry it in my pocket all day long. It take beautiful panoramic shots automatically as well. I can't say enough good things about this Sony RX100 and if you are in the market for a high quality piece that is easy to use and carry - give this one a look. Yes, I know its $ 650 - but worth every penny. We had four pocket cameras with us, none of the other photos came out nearly as nice as the ones from this new Sony. Shots from in and around Rome, Sicily and Greece...

I had to downsize these so they would fit on the forum bandwidth limitations....but otherwise not worked in Photoshop.

A few more - none have been retouched, though they have been downsized to fit here.

Is the coliseum undergoing cleaning/restoration? Big differences in the sections.

No, its not....(cleaning / restoration). It was early morning when I shot those and there was lots of backlighting, so that could be what caused that tone variance.

    Thank you! I shall....

Fun note: See the # 4 photo in the second series? The cafe with the hanging plants? That was where they filmed the scene in Godfather I where Al Pacino's character is in Sicily and asking to meet local bar owner's daughter. That village is high in the hills of Sicily with spectacular views.

The second photo of the War Memorial is great. I wish I realized you were spending time in Rome, my favorite restaurant in all of Italy is a short 5 minute walk from where you took this shot. Oh well maybe on you're next trip. Everyone returns to Rome.

Wow! Those are truly beautiful. I HAVE to go. One of my dearest friends is Italian and goes every year. She keeps begging me to go. I just have to! Stunning! Hope you enjoyed the food and wine along with that scenery. You've seen the little restaurant in Italy where they filmed the GF and all I've seen is the house they filmed at on Staten Island. lol.

Cannot wait to see the rest of these. Thank you for posting them.
