I think I find a really good piece of furniture over last weekend on local craigslist, and I would like to let my fellow forum members and our master Duane judge if it is a good piece regardless of its brand andprice ($55). It is an end table made by Kittinger Old Dominion, Richmond, VA (my google search shows a furniture maker acquired by Kittinger in 1971).
Here are pictures.
To check how well I learned from this forum. Here are some of my thoughts about this table,
It looks like cherry to me, is that right?
The legs are made from a whole piece, I don't find any glue-up evidences
The top is not a veneer, at least I can't find evidences of veneer?
The top looks like a whole board of wood as I can't find any signs of glue-up. But I still can't believe it, maybe it's just some really skillful wood work.
Is it possibly hand made? I feel the three semi circles are not identical, which may just my illusion though.
Anyway, I think it's a good piece of quality furniture, better than the baker piece I got last time. What do you think?
At $55, IMHO, if you like it buy it. You're not going to find anything close to that quality at a similar price point at retail, and the piece looks very well-maintained.
ACK!!! $ 55 ????? HECK YES...GET IT NOW.
That's a 1-board solid Mahogany top, old-school Kittinger back when they made them right. Its worth about $ 1,000 on resale.
If you decide to take a pass on it, please send me the link so I can buy it. You just found the Picasso at the neighborhood garage sale - great score!
