I just received a phone call from a good friend, who informed me that he had just bought a 91" leather sofa (a queen sleeper) for $4,000 (he has 24 hours to cancel the purchase). The sofa is made in Mexico. I'm waiting to hear from him re the brand. Any thoughts? I'm worried because I don't want him to end up with a sofa that looks like garbage within a year. On a related note: Is there a quality brand you could recommend that falls--more or less--within that price range? It doesn't have to be 91" long; I think the regular 84" would work, too. And could probably also have a full, rather than a queen mattress. Thanks for any and all input.
Well, a sleep sofa - any sleep sofa - is nothing more than a frame built around a bed mechanism. They don't make for good beds, and the don't make for good sofas, either. I discourage people from buying them when I can. If some one just must have one, then I'd recommend an upgrade to the Air Dream mattress, which comes with its own compressor to inflate the matt. An upholster frame is an upholstered frame, i'd go inexpensive on a sleeper myself, there is no need to spend a lot as there is no substance to the unit to speak of. What is better in my opinion is to buy good non-sleeper sofa, then a blow up air mattress for when company arrives.

Plus, the sleep sofa with its bed mechanism is very heavy- had to carry one upstairs one time and never again!
Next time you have to carry a sleep sofa up/down stairs, unbolt the mechanism and take it in two trips. Most sleeper unitss come out with 4 to 8 screws.
