Here's a chair that is far better sitting that it looks, and very sturdy. Virtually no side-to-side 'push' in the frame. Why can't B-Y put that seam in the vertical part of the cushion rather than on the top? Lumpy-thin in certain 'hard edge' areas where there should be more padding.

That seam would have been ok IF it had a baseball stitch. I don't understand what these people are thinking sometimes.
Could you give more of your impressions of this choice of leather? Is 'aniline plus' a good or poor compromise?
9417-85 is a tri-tone 'wiped' leather, that is fairly typical for a corrected leather in this price class. Its certainly supple enough, with a nice hand. There will be few (if any) natural markings on it, as its fairly highly processed. Good protective topcoat on it, expect a lot of shading and 'mottling' of colors with this leather.
There are very few 'bad' leathers out there. Most are just different choices. Would I buy this leather for myself? Probably not - I like natural hides that have lots of character and show markings - but that's just my personal preference and I'm a 'leather snob!' I am willing to tolerate the chance of a stain on my leathers as a trade off for a finer hide - a lot of folks are not. So there is no right or wrong. 9417 series is a mainstream hide that will give more than adequate service duty and feel luxurious to the touch, but won't satisfy the leather enthusiast.
