Thread: Hancock and Moore computer chair?

Default Hancock and Moore computer chair?

The vinyl (or is it polyurethane?) on my current computer chair has started peeling. I've gone through 3 or 4 of these chairs over the past 10 years, and each of these $100-$200 Staples-quality chairs has gotten progressively worse in both comfort and durability - the one I'm sitting on right now is only 2 years old! It's a shame I only discovered this forum and started learning about furniture last year...

Anyways, that got me thinking about getting top grain leather for my next chair. Then I remembered that Hancock and Moore does executive chairs. While I ended up not getting an H&M couch for a number of reasons, I probably spend ten times as much time sitting in my computer chair as I do sitting on my couch so I should probably get the best chair that money can buy.

With all that said, I have a couple of questions:

    1. What kind of approximate price range am I looking at for one of these chairs? It'd be good to know how much to budget.
    2. Is the T&C program still around? Are there any T&C executive chairs for 2015?
    3. Can armrests be customized? I sit cross-legged a lot, so an armrest that slopes towards the back of the chair on its way down (or better yet, simply extends outwards without bending downwards) would be great.
    4. Would it be possible to have it delivered via Fedex/UPS rather than white glove? I'm thinking it would be much cheaper, faster, and a lot more convenient. Or would this be a bad idea for reasons that I'm not thinking of?
    5. How would the warranty work for these chairs? Clearly, they're not as solidly built as a sofa would be (if only because they're much smaller and have moving parts) so I'm a bit concerned about things like armrests snapping off or the lift mechanism malfunctioning.
    6. Finally, for those of you who own an H&M executive chair, how are you liking it? How does it stack up against, say, an Aeron chair? I'd love to hear your experiences

Also, if anybody has chair recommendations (this chair is being paired with a glass computer desk, not a solid oak CEO's desk so something with clean, simple lines would be best) or leather recommendations (I eat in front of the computer a lot and drink in front of the computer almost nonstop, so aniline is likely to be unrealistic), I'd greatly appreciate it. Right now, I'm thinking of something along the lines of these:

    $ 1,400 and up

Is the T&C program still around? Are there any T&C executive chairs for 2015?

Yes, the entire program is scanned in here under the LEATHER section. This program will change and reset July 1st.

    Can armrests be customized?

Probably not at anything resembling a reasonable price.

Would it be possible to have it delivered via Fedex/UPS rather than white glove?

    No, they are too large.

Standard warranty as posted in the LEATHER section of this forum. Lift mechanisms are replaceable if outside of warranty. Arms never rip off.

Finally, for those of you who own an H&M executive chair, how are you liking it?

This is my bread and butter chair that I have been sitting in for nearly 30 years at my store. I won't buy anything else. I replace mine every 10 years or so and move my old one to another desk in the store. It may not be the most stylish chair but for function its perfect for me, and I have tried every chair out there for the most part.

I have this one at my home office. It's prettier to look at than the one above but I still prefer that Marquis High Back.

These two are my top sellers. First one is on price (town and country), second one is what that K Street Lawyers downtown like to sit in:

The H&M executive chair I have I got used and is no longer made, but is similar to this: http://www.hancockandmoore.com/produ...productid=2093 . It's extremely comfortable and done in an unprotected aniline. I spend a lot of time in this chair and I never feel uncomfortable. Other chairs in the past have make my back strain and caused my back/shoulders to hurt. I've never used a Aeron, so I can't comment on that chair although I do know of them and have seen them. The entire build is very sturdy (the chair weighs in at just shy of 100 lbs.) and the cushions are still holding up nicely. I'd say you have nothing to worry about with the armrests, they're not going anywhere. The only thing I can mention in regard to my model is that my wife doesn't like it because she has wide hips. For reference I'm 5'10, 170lbs., and this chair fits me to a T.

Thanks for the information Duane and thanks for the testimonial Brian. Given that the T&C program is resetting on July 1st and white glove delivery for a single chair is rather uneconomical in any case, perhaps I should take my time and hold off on the chair until I get my next piece of furniture - that way I don't have to make a rushed decision that I might regret later
