    Default Swivel recliner recommendation

Hi, I'm an occasional visitor to this forum, but I love all the helpful information you have here. My wife and I are excited to be in a financial situation where we can finally get some good quality pieces.

For starters, I need a swivel recliner with good lumbar support. I'm 5'10, 350 lbs. Is there something that will work for me?

    Thanks so much!

    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,

How much room width-wise do you want to have across the seat? Some men in your weight category are very wide...others not so much. That will be a determining factor in selecting a model. Also be aware that 350 lb is at the upper limit rating for a recliner mechanism and wall hugger mechs are not rated for it. You will want a conventional recliner and even then, take it easy with the unit when its in the recline position. No one sitting on the arms, no one in the chair with you, don't get out of the chair without fully closing it, etc. Swivel bases are not rated beyond 275 lb, so I think you should stay in a non-swivel unit for durability. Dealers will sell you one and tell you its OK, but when the swivel base fails down the road (and most surely it will) they won't be there to assist you with a replacement. I'd have to go with Hancock and Moore as they build the most sturdy ones on the market, and then pay a little extra for the frame reinforcement they can do on the frame base. Here's ones that might work for you:

Thank-you. That's understandable, but disappointing. I've been dealing with some back problems so I've got it set up so I can work on my computer from a recliner. My current setup uses a fixed recliner and a work table on wheels that I pull into position after I sit down. I was hoping to find a swivel recliner so I could use a regular desk and swivel the chair into position. It looks like there isn't an option that will work, unless you've got some other suggestion.

To answer your question, I'm not especially wide in the hips. I have broad shoulders and a wide torso.

A swivel recliner is not going to work at a desk, its too bulky and unwieldy and the pitch angle is way too far back. I would think that arrangement would hurt your back more than help it. Here's the most comfortable desk chair I have ever sat in. I own two of these, one at my desk at the store, another at home. Not much to look at, but I find it hugely comfortable with good lumber and back support, and you can reach down to undo the latch and rock back on it. This would be a better way to go for a desk chair...
