Default John Buchanan Custom Flat Top Highboy in Tiger Maple - MASTERPIECE

I get a lot of questions about leather here on the forum, but this is my real passion - and I am thrilled with how this custom piece turned out. This is a Highboy commissioned based on a historical piece from Albert Sacks' book, the only changes was the request to make an acorn drop skirt instead of the scroll in the original, and to do it in tiger maple. Here is what it is based off of and what we used as an order base:

Then you let Master Cabinentmaker John Buchanan do his craft and this is what you wind up with. John is very proud of this one, there was a special set-aside board set at his wood supplier Chris Johnson's place priced at $ 700. John went there to get the wood for this project and normally pays $ 450 to $ 490 for a set of lumber for a highboy, but he couldn't pass this set up, it was perfect. And he's not the kind of man to ask for more money so he took a hit on some profit on this piece in order to create this.

I've been doing this 30 years. I would guess close to 200 Reproduction Highboys have come and gone through my store over the years, maybe 300. This is the best I have ever seen and blows away the one I have in my own home. What a beauty. This is a true Masterpiece, and many centuries from now, someone in the future will still be marveling at it, wondering who made it and what the history was behind it. That's how good it is.

In my store until July 8th if you care to stop by and take a look. Best of all, my client who ordered this is a very good customer who appreciates fine art in furniture, I am glad its going to him. $ 7,400 is the price.

I think I've said this before, but the people who visit my home who know woodworking are drawn like magnets to Buchanan's work -- and the pieces I have are nowhere near as complex as that highboy.
