Thread: H&M recliner mechanism repair? or replace?

  1. #1

Question H&M recliner mechanism repair? or replace?

We have either the Hi Leg Royal or Woodbridge model recliner according to photos on H&M website. About 15 years old. Bought from Leo Burke in Richmond, Va, now out of business. The recliner mechanism is broken at the joint where the bolt on right side connecting seat and back connect has worn through. Seems it could be repaired rather than replacing the whole mechanism. Two questions - has anyone been able to make a repair such as this; - how to find which mechanism we would need if repair not possible. Thank you. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

I have never heard of anyone successfully repairing a recliner mechanism, though I have known dozens of people have tried and unable to keep it working for any length of time. Give it a try, but don't put any money into it other than trying it yourself is my advice.

A new mechanism is currently $ 230 + shipping to your location.

Note too, that is usually a pivot point where the break occurs, so I would recommend if you try to repair it yourself, get a bushing or metal sleeve that the bolt or rivet that you install inside the sleeve.

I think most people try replacing it with just a bolt and nut and that won't work, you have to really create a bearing in there to have a good fix on it. There's a lot of stress on that joint, you have to be able to allow the mechanism to move on a pivot point surface.
