    Default grandfather clocks

Duane, I am considering getting a grandfather clock. Any recommendations? Prefer 18th century styling.

I would get a handmade clock with German brass works, they will last forever. You can also find good antique clocks that are period, however you will want them to be gone over by a clockmaker to be sure they keep a beat and are on time. Nothing is more frustrating than a clock that is off 5 minutes a day.

I have this one tiger maple clock in my store that was handmade by Jim Thompson in Chambersburg VA in 2002. (Jim has since passed - he was 72 years old when he made it). It has the brass German works, lead weights, old glass , hand-painted face, and beautiful carvings. Its very accurate. I sold this clock to one of my best clients for $ 13,500 back in 2002. He passed away and his kids didn't want it, so I bought it back together with some twenty other items and have it @ $ 5,595 in the store. I have turned down offers for less than that, it's worth every penny of that and would be close to $ 18K to replicate today if you can find a builder.
