    Default A Very Busy Week

This has been one of the most exhausting weeks in the store in recent memory. So much new furniture arrived (both for stock and customers) that I have been working unloading trucks since Monday. Four days of heavy lifting in very humid weather has wiped me out physically. The last piece of the day was a 355 lb Jonathan Charles Console/Wine Buffet that myself and one of my delivery guys could barely get in the store. So heavy, but it's a very cool piece. There has been no time for emails or to work on anything other than actual freight so Sarah has been doing much of that the past few days. The good news is we have at least (25) new items in the store as floor models that are ready to go - the store is packed. Need some pieces for the Fall? We have pretty good selection on in-stock items so no need to wait 6 months on ordering something. The bad news is at age 67, I can't do this much longer - the heavy lifting is a young man's job. I should have put a freight elevator in the store years ago! Stay tuned for photos of all the new items.

Friday mornings st The Keeping Room, unpacking new pieces for delivery to clients tomorrow. In the shade is always good! Personally done by myself so I can fully inspect.

Are you talking about retiring completly or hiring someone to do the heavy lifting? I can sympathise with the physical portion, my job is much more of a challange than it was 20 years ago, lol.

No decisions made in that regard. However, my heavy-lifting days are winding down, I'm simply aging out. This piece we put in the store yesterday from Jonathan Charles was 355 lb, for example. One of many.

Nice piece. What is it made of? Some type of honed stone I assume.

Oh no, if that was made of stone it would be 1,500 lb. It's made of wood, they call it "Driftwood" and all the pieces we brought in were closeout pieces with nice discounts on them averaging 30% off regular prices.

One thing we have noticed with Jonathan Charles, the pieces when they arrive area always much nicer in person than their catalog photos.

OK, I see the planks in the close up on the link, but wow in the photos that glazed finish really looks like stone. Still a very nice piece.

I hope you and your delivery guys are at least using those shoulder straps to move the heavy pieces. Also, I hope your daughter will decide to take over the business when you decide to retire. My 2022 plans include hopefully making a trip out your way to meet you and talk about a new recliner I need to buy.
