Default Natuzzi Italia Ottoman Frame broke

About a year and a half ago my wife insisted we buy some modern furniture, so off we went to Natuzzi Italia in Costa Mesa and purchased the Jeremy sofa and ottoman. We were told the sofa had a metal frame, so I assumed the ottoman did as well. It didn't--a neighbor's 10 year old was running around and jumped on it and it broke. It was $1900 and made in Italy. I opened it up to try and figure out to fix it... suggestions welcome:

I've circled in yellow the part where the frame has cracked--also note the metal threading thing at the top left, that's where the leg screwed into:

You can see that even though there are two screw holes for the leg only one is used--screws into that metal thing I noted in above picture

Put the neighbor's 10 year old kid to work in your yard until he pays off the repairs...ottoman back to square one and you have a great looking yard for the fall!

Once plywood is cracked, it’s not repairable. Any attempts to glue or reinforce it will fail. The solution is to replace that entire stringer with a new piece of plywood. The build on that piece look poor, sorry. I don’t see any joinery in the photo, are the end pieces simply stapled onto the butt joint?

FYI, for $1,900 you deserve a much better made piece.

Yes I think the two pieces of plywood are stapled onto that block to form that corner. I would need to remove the stapled leather in order to replace that piece of plywood. Do you think it would be difficult to restaple the leather onto plywood? That's actually not a bad idea... Its 18mm plywood which seems to be a standard size.

Usually the cover is very easy to remove. But you will want to have some kind of pneumatic stapler to re-attach. The manual ones such as Arrow that you get from Home Depot are not up to the task. If you don't have the tools, let a local upholsterer do it, it will cost less than buying tools and wood in most cases and they will pull it tighter when it goes back on the piece.

To Natuzzi's credit they did have someone come out for warranty repair. Unfortunately as noted above its basically impossible to restore to its original condition. The repairman noted that without an additional support for the legs it would always wobble and be fragile. You can see in the picture that even with the metal they weren't able to get the wood 100% flush.

Ha…ha, mending plates and an L bracket are not how you repair that! That repairman is a hack, sorry.

Drop that off at my store and I can fix it properly if you are ever in the area.
