Default Adapting a switch for recliner for handicap access

I have an electric Smith Brothers recliner with the switch on the right side right under the arm. My mother has just been diagnosed with cancer and has a lesion on the brain that has caused her some right hand and arm weakness. She can’t operate her mechanical recliner and I was going to offer her mine, but I’m not sure she is strong enough to operate the button. Is there any kind of an external switch that could be plugged into the motor that would operate the mechanism, and could be pulled over to the left side?

Sorry to hear about your Mother's Cancer Diagnosis. As someone who has had, and survived a Stage 4 cancer, I know what she is going through.

I don't know the wiring harness on a Smith Brother's recliner, however most use similar components and hook ups. Flip the Recliner on its side so you can access the bottom motor and see the pin connection to the switch. The best solution is to simply pull that wire out and replace it with a corded remote, which she could easily operate. You just have to match the connectors up. Search on Amazon. Look at the pin connectors here and pick the one that will be compatible.
