The short answer is there is no premium mechanism on the market. L&P is the 800 lb gorilla of the residential motion furniture industry and woe unto any company that tries to come into the market. They own most the patents on motion furniture and defend them zealously.
Most mechanisms will hold up well if not abused. By abusing, I mean doing things like sitting on an extended footrest, or putting two people in the recliner and pushing back, or moving it with the mechanism extended. The most common failure is the rivets let go after several years of use, and its easier to replace the mechanism with new rather than trying to repair one.
