Thread: Pull Up vs Regular Aniline?

Default Pull Up vs Regular Aniline?

    Hi,

I've read through the forum and sticky pages and I'm still confused on something -- I'm sorry if it's in here and I missed it.

Is pulled leather always less flexible/more slippery than just aniline? I'm about to purchase my first leather couch and I want to walk the line between soft and long-lasting. (I love soft leather -- if it wasn't for, you know, the fact that I actually sit on and use my family room furniture, I'd get suede or nubuck!)

These two seem to be similar except for the fact that one is pulled and the other is not, but I'm being told the durability is the same, which doesn't make sense to me given what I've been reading on the forum. Wouldn't the pulled one (St Croix) last longer?

    Thanks so much!

A "Pull-Up" hide is oil and wax infused, where the tannery presses in several coats of both oil - and the wax - during production. This gives it a unique feel and the "Color Burst" effect when pressure is applied (sometimes referred to as "scratch marks"). Because of this process, Pull-ups age very well and have some spill rejection qualities - as we all know water-based spills bead up on oily and waxy surfaces.

A pure "luxury" aniline is processed at the tannery differently and is designed to be "Naked", which means as close to natural as they can get. They usually have a bit of teflon topcoat applied during the finishing process, but overall are more susceptible to staining, but are the softest hide available.

Longevity of the hide is determine my lifestyle and cleaning regimens.
