As long as the manufacturer's warranty
20 years or longer
15 to 20 years
10 to 15 years
less than 10 years
I'm curious and am going to start a poll to see what everyone expects from their bedding.

We tend to replace ours about every five years even though we buy good mattresses.
I wouldn't be surprised if our mattress is getting close to ten years old. It still feels comfy and looks like new.

I was hoping for a few more poll numbers...but what the heck.
The truth of the matter is the bed warranty has nothing to do with the useful life of the product. Many customers get that confused. A warranty covers defects in manufacturing, not suitability or longevity. And its very rare to have manufacturing defects in bedding.
Most conventional beds last 5 to 7 years then are due for replacement. One way to tell is if you get body impressions anywhere on the mattress that are 2" lower than the high point of the mattress, its shot. Time for a new one.
The All Cotton beds that i like are good for 10 to 14 years, though I pushed my last one to 18 years. They hold up better internally than the conventional spring/foam beds from the major bedding makers.
Latex beds are good for 10 to 14 as well. Latex degrades rather slowly internally, so many don't realize their bed is shot until they happen to sleep on a new one.

Our Sealy is 16 years old and we still sleep pretty well. There aren't any 2" deep depressions, but I'm feeling more "stuck" in my spot than I used to. The memory pad probably adds to that feeling. My husband isn't ready to replace our bed, but I'm going to start shopping soon. Beds are one of my least-favorite things to buy and I don't like shopping for them very often.
17 years, sofar so good, it looks like there's no problem to go for another 3 years.
16 years and 17 years? They're all done, you just won't realize it until you sleep on a new one!

We bought a Nature's Rest natural latex bedset going on 10 years now. I think the company went out of business and there were complaints. Fortunately, it's worked out very well for us. But I've noticed the past few months that it's not the "heaven" it used to be. I think we're going to be due for a new bed in a couple of years. And this time, we're going for a RoyalPedic latex bedset. Yes, I know it's expensive, but after some research, I really see it now as the only reliable choice.
Mattress is about 7-8 years old and may be nearing replacement due to comfort level.
That's about par for a convoluted foam bed (which are the vast majority out there). The foam breaks down internally inside the bedding and is no longer resilient - and when you get 'the ridge' in the middle of the bed its a sure sign its used up. This is why I only buy all-cotton bedding for myself - no internal foam to break down, no ridge, and easily 2x the lifespan.
I did lots of research on bedding years ago. Decided which bed I wanted to buy for myself, wife and kids, and then got the dealership for Royal Pedic! I did it for selfish reasons - not so much to sell the product in my store. Its all I buy.
