Here's the dirty little secret of mattress and bedding returns:
The State Health Departments across the entire country forbid re-selling a used mattress, so they all go in the trash or are donated to Homeless Shelters, Habit for Humanity etc. It is illegal to resell them. Technically, the manufacturer can keep the inner spring grid and reuse that, but no one bothers to do that due to the cost to even tear down the mattress. All foam and covers must be stripped off and disposed of.
Companies that offer returns have so little invested in the cost of making them, and such high profit margins, that they factor in tossing some in the trash. As a Royal Pedic set is pushing around $ 8,000 or more, neither the company or the selling dealer want to dispose of the bedding to make a sale, so we don't offer returns on them. For dealers that do - read the fine print carefully if that is important to you. Handling and shipping costs for returns may equal the cost of the bedding in some cases.

Hey Duane,
Been several weeks now since we got the mattress. I think I can honestly say this mattress has actually made a huge difference in eliminating my constant back spinal pain upon awakening. Maybe it’s just psychological, but whatever I really think it made a difference.

I love your story about Alex and your own experience at the Porsche dealership!
Quick question about Royal Pedic mattress sets - must they be purchased as a set (mattress and corresponding box springs) to enjoy their true value or would a buyer reap the same benefits only purchasing the mattress to put on top of whatever platform they wanted?
Thank you!
You can just get the mattress if you like, more and more beds are platform these days and the box springs are little more than a foundation anyways. Basically a platform that has a small amount of give to it. The mattress is 90% of the cost of the set, too.

We received our mattress about two weeks ago. My husband was hesitant on spending that much money but is happy after sleeping in it. Neither one of us found it too hard and I was surprised the difference a quality mattress feels. It was well spent money!
I knew you would like it, Angie. <g>.
When you really will appreciate it is when you go on a trip and sleep in a different bed somewhere. That's when the quality and difference really hits home.
My wife and I just came back from a Cruise on Regent Seven Seas Granduer, a brand new "ultra-luxury" ship that was just on its 10th voyage when we did ours. We were on their bedding for 10 days and it actually was pretty decent, because part of their story is they put literature in the rooms to try to sell you the mattress and linens (which were excellent, too). It was a bit too soft for us as firmer is our preference, but far better than anything in say a Marriott hotel. It was made for the ship line by Hasten Vivid, whose bedding can cost $ 30,000 for a set.

I'm pretty firmly in the camp of investing in high quality bedding (and linens). I think you get am excellent return on your expenditure because you just sleep better on a high quality mattress.
