I'm so happy to find this place. I have a mix of cheap and midrange furniture. We just sold our 3200+ sqft in the country and downsized to a fancy pants, modern condo in the city. The condo is gorgeous, I love it! My mix of furniture is transitional and now I want to change to a more modern style that is simple. We just purchased a W. Schillig Primanti sectional, now I am looking at redoing the dining room and bar stools. The dining room chairs and bar stools are from Rowe and are over 10 years old. The upholstery still looks good because we don't use them except for special occasions. I'm agonizing over how much to spend on the dining room chairs because they will rarely be used. I love the look of upholstery, I really love the Jessica Charles line. I also love the simple midcentury modern chairs from CB2. I want a good value, I also want something trendy. Is there such a thing as both? Any recommendations? Thanks! Nicole
Jessica Charles may be where you want to be. It has some cutting edge design, the chairs are solidly built, and while not inexpensive, I don't think you will get sticker shock, either. $ 700 to $ 900 on most, depending on cover and style. The problem with inexpensive chairs is not the design, but the build quality. The value chairs tend to have poorly joined frames, that will give you a wiggly chair that sways to and from once its been sat in a dozen times. So the trick is to get that solid build that maintains a rigid frame and won't rapidly deteriorate on you. They have solid bar stools, too...

I saw the swivel bar stools and I have a question. I really like the ones with the square base, how does that work? Does the seat pivot and expose the wood base?
I just happen to have a H&M Charlotte Barstool in the store to demonstrate ...

Thank you!
That is interesting on the square stool, I wonder how much of a pain those corners are on your legs, I would have expected the base corners to be a bit more rounded.
You don't hit them or feel them at all when rotating. I have that same style in my house and use them every day.

i don't know if i have chosen right thread(correct me if i am wrong). but here is my question, i have this table and i want to get modern look, so can i just mix this table with some modern looking chairs(and if i can, can you please give me some advice in terms of minimum price for best possible quality, what color would be best match for this table and what are the best brends for modern dining chairs) or maybe i should change the table and get whole modern dining set? sorry for so many questions and thank you for answer in advance.
