Hi all. I'm working on ordering a chair and recliner (probably H&M Austin Tilt) and a sofa. I have an open kitchen/living floor plan. It's very pretty, but the living area is difficult to lay out.
I've seen such great ideas on this forum, so I'd love to have your input!!
Preferences:
- to be able to see the TV from the kitchen area
- seating groupings (conversation areas)
- comfortable areas for reading w/nearby lighting
- greatly prefer sofa over loveseat. Need sofa for stretching out.
Which of the following layouts do you think would work best?
When sofa is along the right wall, the TV stand is in front of the windows. I'd have to keep the blinds closed. Also, don't have a cable outlet over there. But i guess it could be installed.
Notice the weird angled 40" wall at the lower right. Makes things more difficult... The sofa pictured is a standard 87".
Edit: Windows don't let in much light (face NNE, with long patio cover) so leather will be safe there.

None of the above....where's the link for the design program? Can you attach your template so I can play with the arrangement?

Duane, it's the Icovia room planner. The only share ability I see is to send to an email address... Please PM me an email address and I'll send you a link.
UPDATE: Looks like I can't share an editing feature. Icovia doesn't seem to be supported any more either. I started this in Visio. Wish I'd completed that instead. Maybe tomorrow I can continue with Visio.

Okay interesting... That's why we ask the experts. Never occurred to me to float the sofa in the middle like that!
Speaking of swivel, I was thinking of having the Austin Tilt enabled/adapted to swivel.
I like the idea of the cushy ottoman in the middle, but I've got a coffee table I like for the time being.
How about this? Too crowded?... I can also move that sofa table in front of the window at the left.
Bingo. Last one is your winnah.....that's the one. You can't put a swivel base on the tilt back Austin, but you don't need to with it like that. The one on the swivel could be a 3732 Austin Recliner with swivel.....or a Jessica Charles chair (they make a lot more swivel chairs than H&M, and its their sister company). Agreed, if using a chair with ottoman like the 2032 and 8131, you don't want TWO ottomans in the room. Coffee Table *may* be too crowded in that arrangement....you'd have to see. You want 24" walkspace minimum between pieces and i don't think you are getting that in the drawing.

The attachment in #6 won't open for me. But assuming the layout is like the prior one:
We,at least, find that when we watch TV for a period from our firmer back chairs, including our H&M Gordon swivel, we like the option of having our feet up. But this seems to be not an issue when we sit in our cushier chairs. Depending on how your particular swivel works out for you, if you find you're watching TV there a lot, you might wind up wishing
you had at least a boot stool with it. Or maybe those kinds with retracting footrests. Or you might not..
But if you're getting it in leather it will probably not match well if you buy additional pieces after the fact.
So you might consider getting a boot stool with matching leather at the same time. assuming you aren't getting a chair with a retractable footrest.
My conversation section of LR is pretty much the same as laid out, with couch floating. The other details are not comparable, we have a different situation. But the point is floating can work.
Thanks Needstuff! I replaced the attachment. Not sure why the previous one was formatted the way it was... I think this one is fine.
I hear you... I always want to be able to prop my feet up. New image shows where the Austin Tilt will be - with ottoman.
The chair near the fireplace was drawn with ottoman before. It was the sitter/watcher in the chair on the other side I was concerned for. FWIW. I assumed that chair would swivel, or be turned, to watch TV also, and if deployed for much TV watching the issue we had might surface. Absent a footrest or the right kind of chair that doesn't need one.
