Hancock & Moore # 8172 Chesterfield Sofa in Hyde Park Merlot Burnished
There is nothing harder to make in the world of upholstery than a button-tufted piece. Only a master upholsterer can do it, and its the highest spec job in the factory. There is an "Art" to do it correctly, and as either a furniture enthusiast or a consumer you should train your eye to look for the workmanship on pieces such as these. You want to look at the deepness of the tufts, the symmetry of the diamonds they form in relation to one another, the evenness of the buttons on a horizontal plane (they are sewn on by hand). Also, how tight is the arm and back roll? These get sloppy in mediocre pieces. When I unpacked this sofa yesterday for delivery to one of our local customers, I broke out into a big smile - because this is an upholstery masterpiece. No one tufts like the craftsman at Hancock and Moore. Walk into any Restoration Hardware store and look at their tufted pieces by comparison - see for yourself. Note the signature card on the seat, that's signed by all the people that worked on it at the H&M Hickory NC plant.
This one is done in an beautiful Italian Pull-up Burnished leather called Hyde Park Merlot (GR 3), wood finish is Sandalwood, Nail trim is "A", and I want one just like this for my home library. Spectacular!
