What is your favorite local restaurant, and favorite type of food to eat out? I end up in some random places around the country from time to time, and being a foodie, I always like to hear what peoples favorite restaurants are in their area, just in case I ever make it there.
My favorite local restaurant here is located in Chandler AZ, and is called "Cork". It is a fine dining type place, but has small "tapas" style plates letting you and your friends/family share, and sample quite a few different dishes. Plus their banana cream pie is crazy good.
I would have to say one of my favorite types of food to eat out is Thai, because I can't cook it..lol I make a mean steak, and come from a family of amazing Italian cooks, so both of those are usually not a "treat" for me when I go out.
I have pretty varied tastes... There is a lot of fine dining in this area, but it is the dives that I like to find..
My current favorite: http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/32/36328...lub-Cincinnati
Unfortunately, it's a lot of other people's favorite, as well... Be prepared to wait.
Duane how about you? I am going to VA beach next month, and my parents are driving home to NY. I think they are actually spending the night in Alexandria/dc, is there any places in that area you love? Maybe for a special occasion, as it is my dads bday/fathers day?
Duane, have you ever been to or heard of "The grille" @ The Morrison House? I think that is the area they will be staying.
I have a simple palette in food (odd, because nothing else I like is regular ordinary stuff), so I go with mainstay places around town, nothing fancy or too expensive. After living in this area for 26 years, the family favs are:
* Dixie Bones BBQ in Woodbridge VA <Not at all fancy, but real home cooking. You must get pie if you ever go here.
* Any of the Great American Restaurants in Northern Virginia. We go to these more than any others - each one a little different but they deliver a high-quality, consistent dining experience:

No idea what's in VA Beach, that's 3.5 hours from me. When we do go there on delivery, we always stop in Williamsburg for lunch at this place, however (hard to find, even when you know where it is)

Can't beat some good ole BBQ! I made some ribs, and a pork butt this weekend..haha
They are pretty simple as well. My stepmom is a bit more adventurous then my dad.lol
Have you ever been to either of these two places? Seems like they have some pretty basic stuff, maybe just elevated a bit.

I always love when someone asks the question of "What's your Favorite restaurant" and I always answer back "Depends what I'm eating and how much time I have". Some people actually seem to feel that one restaurant is the best for everything, yet I haven't found that place so my answer differs depending on the meal/occasion/time of day and so forth.
I generally prefer the local establishments over chains though some chains are decent enough and have later hours than the local places. I remember being out of town for a week in Pittsburgh for work and quizzing everyone I talked to where's a good place to eat that's near my hotel and usually getting back chain restaurants as the answer. That led to me doing some driving around trying to find a non chain and glad I did since I found a nice Italian place and also a steak/ribs sorta dive that was not only good but inexpensive.
