Young America by Stanley is Made in USA and much better quality than most. I don't know that it is solid wood but I would still consider it to be superior to most of the baby furniture out there. It is available in many styles and finishes and is designed to be convertible as the baby grows.
Stanley did something unique a few years ago; they moved production of all baby/kids furniture back to the United States.

A word of caution about homemade cribs. Baby furniture is incredibly strictly regulated with specifications about the proper amount of space between the bars and many other things. Frequently, large commercial crib manufacturers are forced to issue recalls, due to some overlooked safety hazard. If companies making thousands of cribs have difficulty conforming to safety requirements I would think that the odds of a homemade crib conforming are pretty low.
