That's a sealed motor, a simply seat spill is highly unlikely to short one out. More commonly, they may have used it on a socket with no surge protector, in which case a surge spike can damage the switch, the rectifier or the transformer, not usually the motor. You would need to get an ohmmeter and determine which electrical part has failed by testing each component.
