Campgrounds are few and far between around here, due to the population density. I know there is a KOA campground in Fredricksburg, about 30 miles south of the city, and lots of places in the national parks and forests out in the MD and VA mountains (90 minutes out). There may be others closer in as well but I'm not really a camper so I don't follow it much.
Lake Anna is a large man-made lake dug as cooling water for the nuclear power plant located there. They do have a park there as well. There's a hot side of the lake (exhaust side), and a cold (Intake) side. Not much of a view, the lake goes in and out over several miles and most lakefront areas have second homes on the shoreline.
